Fertility and being overweight

If you’re trying to get pregnant, or intend to start trying, know that being overweight – especially significantly so – can affect your chances of conceiving and having a healthy baby. If you are overweight and planning to get pregnant in the next year or few years, you might commit to a healthy eating and regular exercise plan. Losing even a few kilos can make a difference. The father's weight  can also affect your chances of getting pregnant.

How can I tell if I’m ‘overweight’ or ‘obese’?

One common measure of whether a person is ‘overweight’ or ‘obese’ is the body mass index or BMI. You calculate your BMI by dividing your weight in kilograms by the square of your height in metres. The better health channel has BMI calculator and further information about BMI. A healthy BMI is considered to be between 18.5 and 24.9. Having a BMI between 25 and 29.9 is considered ‘overweight’ and a BMI over 30 is considered ‘obese’.

How can I lose weight?

With a healthy eating plan and regular exercise, you’ll be on your way to a healthy weight. View our healthy weight fact sheet  for some tips on how to live lighter
The Dieticians Association of Australia  website has some excellent information about creating your own healthy diet plan. You can also visit the Australian Government’s  Healthy weight website for more information on a ‘balanced diet’ and guidelines for how much exercise you need to do to both lose weight and maintain a healthy weight.
My advise
1.    Obesity, which is an important health issue, is a common problem among women of reproductive age. Obesity and overweight involves an abnormal and excessive fat accumulation that negatively affects the health of the body. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), if the body mass index (BMI) equals to or is greater than 25 kg/m2, it is considered overweight, whereas if the BMI equals to or is greater than 30 kg/m2, it is considered obesity
2....  Obesity brings out many problems such as social, psychological, demographic, and health problems. It is related to increased health risks such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension, coronary heart disease, and osteoarthritis and is linked to various malignancies, particularly endometrium, breast, and colon cancers. Obesity also plays a significant role in reproductive disorders, particularly in women. It is associated with anovulation, menstrual disorders, infertility, difficulties in assisted reproduction, miscarriage, and adverse pregnancy outcomes.
3...   In obese women, gonadotropin secretion is affected because of the increased peripheral aromatization of androgens to estrogens. The insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia in obese women leads to hyperandrogenemia. The sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG), growth hormone (GH), and insulin-like growth factor binding proteins (IGFBP) are decreased and leptin levels are increased. Thus, the neuro-regulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis deteriorates . These alterations may explain impaired ovulatory function and so reproductive health.
4...  Lower implantation and pregnancy rates, higher miscarriage rates, and increased maternal and fetal complications during pregnancy, obese women have a lower chance to give birth to a healthy newborn . In this review, the effects of obesity on fertility and effective management of infertility in obese and overweight women is summarized.
5... When you are overweight the chances of conceiving is low
6 .  Even if you conceived the oxygen taken by you will not be sufficient to your body and your unborn child.  it may cause defective child
7.   Some times it may also cause of miscarriage or abortion .
8.  When you wants to give birth to Healthy child then follow healthy habits, healthy food so that your obesity will be reduced and improve your chances of conceiving
